I suddenly went deaf in my left ear. Doctor said it was caused by a virus and started me on a steroid treatment. What are the chances I will hear from that ear again?

possible Meniere's Disease or could be Vestibular Neuritis caused by an number of factors.

Prednisone is a very poor treatment for that, but if it is your first time, it will work at reducing inflammation causing the loss of hearing. You would have been better off getting a Cortisone shot and being checked for a bacterial ear infection.

Have you gotten the China Flu vaccines? They are causing tons of this in patients I have noticed.

Sorry to hear you took the "vaccines".

As far as your hearing, it should come back in a couple days if the prednisone works. Surprised they would give you that instead of Solu-Medrol or something more effective and less harmful to you. Prednisone is a horrible cortico-steroid (opposite of anabolic steroid) that should only be used in certain cases. Did you see some gen practitioner or a mongrel clinic affirmative action doctor, rather than a real audiologist or ENT doctor?

Guess I won't be starting my own thread for this then. I've worked in a factory for 2 years with hissing air from robotic suction cup things going all day. It wasn't painfully loud so even though ear protection was provided, literally NO ONE wore it, so I figured it wasn't worth using. After all some of these people had worked here for years. I've always had exceptional hearing. 6 months in my boss was impressed I heard her talking about something she was about to ask me to do to someone else when they were both 30 feet away from me. Well, now I can barely hear muttered conversations 15 feet away over the noise. I was in the desert in October and I noticed I had very mild tinnitus. I started wearing ear protection and working farther from the noise. I decided to install a decibel measuring app and pic related was my result. Of course I cant be sure how well this calibrated. Is it possible impacted earwax might also have created some of this issue? I used Qtips improperly for a while. I know I was a retard but apparently the sound level is below OSHA mandated warning levels so they don't have to put a sign up and no one ever told me anything. I've always been good about wearing ear pro I hate that I let this happen. I think it's more about the harshness of a hissing noise than the volume itself. I'm 28 for context.

won't cost you much, but either way it's worth it, the medic might scan your ears first which could add cost, but the cleaning itself is just some warm salt water which can be a little painful sometimes, nothing too bothersome

Tinnitus can come with age too. Mine goes and comes away, sometimes the air pressure sets it off which may have happened when you went to the desert. The pressures released in the factory *may* affect it too but I doubt it since it's not a pressurized warehouse itself.

He has SSHL, it presents with sudden large hearing loss, it is not conductive hearing loss as that is trivial to determine and can be confirmed with numerous other simple tests including Weber and Rinne tests. It is usually concurrent with the hearing loss, which is also usually episodic in nature during early stages of the disorder. I also did not see OP mentioning anything about vertigo, which for most people would be by far the most concerning and distressing symptom.

So 70 dB hissing air for 4k hours shouldn't be the cause then? It's just so weird because my ears never would ring after work it just slowly began to build up. I only started noticing it September of 2p21 and I've been working there since November 2019

Humidity and temperature affects how much you can hear a cold, humid night you can hear a conversation 100m away.

I got tinny about five years ago and it suddenly got worse last year. Went to ENTs and they couldn't find a cause, after having some tests done they also said my hearing was perfectly normal despite the tinnitus so they don't think it's being caused by damage to my ears. My dentist says it's because I clench my jaw and gave me a device to wear while I sleep which hasn't helped. I chalk it up to either a medication I took or something else. My dad clenches his jaw and he tells me he has it too although not as bad as mine apparently so it could be genetic. Sometimes you just get a run of bad luck, hopefully those mouse/chicken cochlear regeneration tests are rolled out to humans within our lifetimes

hey man i've been through some stuff with my hearing and from what I researched these are some of the options right now:
- prednisone therapy (standard procedure)
- hyperbarric oxigen therapy: an unofficial alternative that can have positive results, but do it as soon as possible (!) and maybe for multiple times
- no caffeine, smoking, drugs, toxicants in general
- sleep for as long as you have to

More advice:
- get magnesium citrate, eat a whole day's dose everyday (its good before sleep)
- eat eggs, liver (!!!), red meat
- drink water, but not too much
- no sugar
- no white bread
- quit vegetable and seed oils, replace with thallow, ghee/butter and olive oil
- reduce stress !!! very important

Eating beef liver is one of the best things you can do for yourself

One good source of information is @liam_stops_tinnitus on instagram. He has a Youtube channel too

I recommend you to get in touch with him, he has a lot of experience with treating tinnitus and hearing losses, lately especially in cases from the cov jab.

I've got mild tinnitus, certainly from decades of loud music. A few months ago, though, I woke up and got out of bed, and for about ten seconds, had absolutely no sound at all. No tinnitus, either. Tried talking and couldn't hear a thing. Then my sound and tinnitus slowly came back. Not sure what that was about.

I have single sided deafness in my right ear probably since birth but it is uncertain. I've been experiencing sudden ear loss in my remaining ear and had been put on steroid medication as well for around a week. They helped and now I am talking betahistine because I got diagnosed with Menieres disease in my remaining ear (which might gradually make me lose my hearing). The treatment works for me and I gained back 10 dB in my ear. I wish you luck anon, I hope the treatment will work for you and that you will regain some hearing.
