All the people I know who tested positive had maybe 1 day of fever and they were fine afterwards. My girlfriend and her entire family tested positive 2 weeks ago so I stayed near her for an entire evening, we made out, breathed in each other's face, had unprotected sex and I still didn't get it despite being unvaccinated. She had enough virions in her nose to consistently test positive to antigen tests. Nobody in her family had anything worse than some headache and a slight loss of smell, some are vaccinated and some aren't.
I wouldn't have a problem believing government statistics if I actually personally knew anybody who got really sick from covid.
In fact I know more people who got sick from the second and third dose of Moderna than from covid.
