To what extent is science reproducible?

I'm trying basic Chemistry experiments for fun and it seems like even something as basic as a standardization can be all over the place.
I remember working with graduate students and some of them would openly say they faked their remaining data after being in Grad school for over 7 years just to publish something and get out. Even after papers are published, who's actually going to simply recreate what you did over the course of 5 years just to prove that your science is real? There's no way everything published is actually reproducible.
How do we fix science?
