/sci/entifically speaking, supposing that /sci/ brings you any benefit, how often should you visit it to maximize that benefit?

The healthy timespan is about once a month, currently I'm at once a day because the pandemic has turned me back into an isolated retard. And in particular I engage in unhealthy /pol/-tier posting or career posting too regularly instead of staying focussed on the topic.

The percieved benefit to posting on /sci/ is in engaging with other experts that are passionate about their field in a risk-free, judgement-free manner (which is not possible through direct correspondence/conferences etc.). In this way I can retain an overview of other fields as well as being pointed towards the best textbooks and papers in those fields. This has benefited my own career immensely as my advisors and later my colleagues mistakenly think I'm a genius for being able to make interdisiplinary connections quickly which has revolutionised our own field. This in turn lead to my inclusion on many grant applications and collaboration opportunities which I am on the verge of squandering due to a lack of focus in the last two years.

I usually make my own threads, or take a quick look at /mg/ or /sqt/ if there is nothing interesting in the catalogue. My own threads are usually quality imo, they are on topic and always get bump limit replies except for the last one I made about quantum billiard balls which was more a light troll anyway.

I do leave /sci/ for months or even years at a time though. I don't think the benefits of being here outweighs the downsides.

I'd say about once a week, but otherwise I agree. As much as people meme about deep discussion on here, you can occasionally find some really interesting stuff. That said, 99% of it is garbage, and in recent years it's only gotten worse.

To answer your question, there is no benefit to this place. It sucks you in, if I browse or post in a thread in the morning, I find myself coming back all day checking on various threads or to see if anyone has replied to my posts. I can end up spending hours posting here that could have been spent doing anything else. But you're here forever so it can't be helped.

Heh, I've also used anons as a resource for my job. When it works it's been invaluable. A bit like /biz/, you need an oldfag's eye for bullshit and Indian posters to find the gold nuggets. Glad people like you are still around. Only reason I keep coming back.
