How would the brain react if all of its methods of stimuli (hearing, taste, touch, etc) were cut off but it was kept alive?

Insanity. This happens to people who just have their stimuli diminished, not entirely cut off.

There's a Heinlein novel where the protag briefly experiences this, empty consciousness, and his solution was to go through every memory he had. Starting with when he was 14 and got straight-shota'd by this woman who lived next door.
