Hello.

I've noticed something on a coffee machine.
I can't dissect the machine but I guess it has the same setup as pic related where left pipe shows how much coffee there is left and right is the coffee itself but that is my guess. And I am not sure where the outlet valve for the coffee would fit in to pic.

When I open the outlet to pour the coffee the indicator drops almost to 0, when it's closed it goes back to normal levels again. Why is that? I thought if I were to drain liquid from a setup like this liquid levels would be the same in every container.
What could be happening here? Maybe the coffee indicator is setup differently? If so how? Or is there some principle that I am forgetting, like the pressure drops in the indicator pipe but I have hard time believing that opening the valve would drop the pressure so much.
