If I'm designing an aeroplane I'm not rushing my fucking calculations to satisfy some arbitrary time constraint like I would have to on a test. The fact you got an A+ on a test means nothing except that you memorized your shit and practiced exactly what's going to be on a test which you're going to forget anyway after you fall out of form. Then your skills and understanding will be no different than mine yet you will have more points than me because you're an ape monkey.

I've had a similar situation, the in class quiz which is basically a handout for going to the lecture is 25% of the grade. The prof knows full well that it's just to make you go to his lecture.

It is your moral imperative to skip all of his classes anyway
