>>14173878Burning plastic is safe and fun, it's an ecologically beneficial source of fuel. All plastic bottles and disposable food items except styrene (foam and some plastic utensils) are safe to burn. Polyethelene hdpe ldpe uhmw etc are all burn cleaner than wood or candle wax.
Burning of polystyrene releases styrene gas, a neurotoxin.
Burning polyvinylchloride (PVC, recycling number 3) releases 'mustard' gas.
Recycling codes 2 and 4 are extra safe to burn. But the safe to burn plastics are sometimes unsafe if they have flame retardants or hardeners or other additives mixed in (such as when they are used to make things like plastic gas cans, electrical cable insulation or sometimes indoor conduit or piping).
Burn recycling codes 1, 2, 4, 5, do not burn 3, 6, 7. Except sometimes you can burn 7 as it is the catch all for all other plastics. Also don't burn abs, its just another form of styrene.
I hope this is all clear to you and not unclear at all. Burn 1 2 4 5 7 except when you shouldn't. Don't burn the others unless you are at a furry convention.
