Depends on the country i suppose, but generally:
The straits of Hormuz,Malacca,Bab-el-Mandeb,Panama and Gibraltar. Countries that can export necessary resources for cheap like Rare-earth metals, oil and ores are valuable.
Certain countries that have unique expertise in manufacturing high-tech products like Taiwan are strategically important.
