I think the 'lon just offends a segment of /sci/ posters because he's autistic and nerdy and not model handsome, and yet succeeds in non-academic contexts anyway. He's like a walking messenger, regardless of what he intends, screaming "You could be me, but you're not, which means that there are fundamental problems with you."

To rephrase: I think Elon Musk offends a segment of haters on this board because they perceive him to basically be on their level, but he is massively more successful than them (in their eyes). Hence the need to shit on everything he's achieved. Because otherwise they would have to face the much scarier contradiction of being inferior to him in some way (in terms of achieving the things that he has).
