Anyone uses or used to use a kerosene lamp? Does it give enough light to comfortably read? Would it be cheaper than electricity? Does the full tank last long? Does it smell when it's burning or not burning? Does it create toxic or otherwise harmful fumes?

Yes and I also have one of these bad boys. And for your questions, 1: yes, but the Aladdin takes the cake because it can light like a 60W bulb. 2: Depends on where you live but probably no. 3: one like your pic, yes, an Aladdin, not so much. bigger flame due to mantle and more chimney draft. 4: Depends on the fuel you use. Some higher end kerosene will give almost no smell. 5: Use in a well ventilated area and, more importantly, do not left lit when going to bed.
