I know some people think this is memeing, but it's a phenomenon that's been known to happen to some people who have autoimmune-ish issues. Unfortunately it's temporary, so OP is going to feel like his usual self in a few days.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that ACE2 upregulation is associated with Alzheimer's and cognitive decline from insomnia is pathologically similar to Alzheimer's, but the abnormality is found in Alzheimer's patients well before its onset. Something similar I was thinking of was that corona tries to hijack the mitochondria to increase its glucose supply, perhaps some of the physical and mental degradation from insomnia is expressed in mitochondrial dysfunction and through some mechanism by interacting with the mitochondria corona helped restore some state of homeostasis.

Viral illnesses AFAIK . It's a relatively common phenomenon in ME/CFS, which is not known to be autoimmune at the moment, but it is certainly immune system related. It's been theorized that the immune system in people with ME/CFS is out of whack or in overdrive and that somehow it gets in a normal state for a few days just after infection (for some).
I had a personal experience with this phenomenon too. I used to have a very, VERY bad non allergic rhinitis, it was like having a bad hay fever 24/7, for years. The only moment it subsided were the days following a cold or a fever.
There are also other conditions that seem to improve during/after fever, like autism, but I don't know much about that.

I had CFS about 6-7 years ago, that's when my EKG abnormality was found but at the time it wasn't any cause for concern and they couldn't link it to the CFS. I remedied it years ago though and it hasn't reared its head since, but it's very interesting that you mention it and probably not a coincidence.

I've never heard of this phenomenon and this is really interesting. Is there a name for it or its mechanism? I can't find one from what I've searched

Are you sure you are not suffering from a mild form of it? The symptoms you describe in the first post do fit the description of CFS. Are you still getting post-exertional malaise?

No, the opposite. I exercise every single morning with a mixture of qi gong and heavier shit like stairclimbing, pullups and such. I take half an hour morning walks after breakfast, if anything I have malaise if I don't exert myself and get my engine running.

Oh shit, autism is one of my specialties and I had no idea about this, thank you for this.

btw this thread is honestly not seeking medical advice, I mean it obviously has some beneficial potential and if I can mimic these effects with some sort of lifestyle change, diet or supplements it would be great, but I'm genuinely mostly curious HOW this could happen and what the mechanics are behind it.

ah yes im sure youre a trained psychologist and arent just asspulling a bunch of garbage in order to legitimize yourself.

You know why you feel clear headed? because being sick finally changed the boring monotonous pattern you call your daily life. Its not cause covid does some magic to cure depression, youre just extremely weak minded and likely need therapy

Not OP, but listen, if you have brain fog all the time (essentially cognitive impairment) and one day your brain clears up, you WILL notice. Brain fog is a symptom of many autoimmune illnesses, but it's not exclusive to them (for example it can happen after chemotherapy, see "chemo brain"), and it's rather different from depression.
It's difficult to describe to people who have never experienced it, and the loss of cognitive function can vary from mild to extreme. In my case I went from being able to study profitably in a STEM degree and program to have difficulty reading a line of text in one sitting (and this was on a good day when I didn't have head splitting headaches). I've improved quite a lot since then, but my brain is not what it used to be and unless I improve some more, getting a degree is definitely out of question.

small lifestyle changes can make people feel like they have control of their life which can give you positive mental effects for no other reason. people report shit like this all the time after taking a new supplement or going vegan or buying a new power crystal. could you be right and you've unlocked the secret to a life well lived because now you are drinking raw milk?
