In mainstream physicalism, matter exists out there in reality. Matter is fully describable by quantities, so reality is quantitative in nature. The brain is an example of matter, so it too is fully describable by quantities.
No matter how fancy your quantitive description of the brain gets, how will it ever explain the rise of concious experience?
Conciousness and quantities are two different, incommensurable categories. At some point, you will always have to hand wave.
