their reasons are very varied, but few of them have rational reasons. what they do is search out vaguely rational opinions of others to try and justify their fear and irrationality.
so they hear joe rogan offer a few ums and ahs and think. yeah that will cover my true reasons.
to get to the core of it and fix this issue, it is more about psychology than hard fact
most people dont understand scientific probability and risk. this means policy makers and advisors over simplify things in statements which are then used as evidence they are lying or being decietful.
all this can only be countered by a steady stream of carefully worded information over a long period of time, coupled with proper scientific education and training in rational logical thinking.
its ok and a good thing to be a skeptic, but many are dishonest and hide behind it.
