>does foodstuff x cause heart disease? YES it turns out>does foodstuff x cause heart disease? NO the latest research showsGo read some of the shit residents and even attendings from time to time crap out in their journals for a good laugh sometimes. After 8 years of higher education, their grasp on research is to overparameterize until you've got something. Anything. Abusing statistics like they never even learned it at all, a 2nd year physics undergrad has a better understanding of uncertainty than some doctors doing serious research.
Seriously go read some of the "statistical analysis" from an average medical journal article. A lot (I would dare to say most) is garbage unreproducible junk. Doesn't matter because no one wants to fund studies that verify results of previous ones.
So, as a based physics grad student I came to this realization that science is a false way of life. People are in their own little worlds and cannot see beyond their area of expertise, which doesn't apply as a whole to society. So "experts" making policy decisions on literally anything should be questioned for their motives. Unless you're Grigori Perelman or some once in a half century autist.
"Scientists" are generally clever enough, but very few give a fuck about anything related to "truth".
They're worried about funding.
They're worried about their career.
They're worried that they've spent 30 years on the wrong path.
In academic settings they're worried about how they're perceived by those above them.
Pretending society should be guided by "scientists" and "data" is insane. Obviously we need to use those things, but when someone brings out some numbers, then implies that this means we need to do xyz because of science, you shouldn't just accept that.
