If you're looking for quantum, start with Levine's Physical Chemistry, Chapter 7. It's a gentlre intro to th emath and not so tough to digest narrative wise
Then, look at McQuarrie which is more sophisticated and kind of the "standard text"
If you're looking for thermodynamics, I'd also say start with Levine, then move to Atkins
