>>14144566thats just nasa's propaganda excuses, making the numbers lie to make it sound like their half billion dollar, 18 year project that ballooned to more than 30x that cost and is taking decades longer to complete, isn't as big of a wasteful failure as a it really is.
the majority of soibois buy nasa's argument and swallow it because the majority of soibois never bothered learning the realities of optical physics well enough to know any better.
given the amount of money expended and the fact that they're using those lightweight, paper thin mirrors, they should've been able to put up a much, much larger optic. hst's glass mirror weighted about a ton, jwst's is a toy, it weights about 1/3 what hst's did.
in 1995 the slogan for jwst was "bigger, faster, cheaper" and they ended up delivering the value of a $500 million project, a lightweight toy space telescope, for a much, much larger price. they even launched jwst on a little toy v-2 rocket, hst required the full living capability of the shuttle and all it's booster's just to get to low earth orbit.
ppl think jwst is super important because wasting all the extra money made ppl wrongly assume it was all spent for a good reason.
