People who are naturally talented and claim they don't know theory are usually wrong - as they do know in a more instinctive rather than in a formalised structured manner.
Also how good muscle memory is plays a factor. Practice is a probably the greatest contributor because it actually physically changes the body - Brass Band players for example are consistently shown to have greater lung capacities, guitarists tend to have better grip strength and hand flexibility etc etc.
Exposure to different musical styles is also important; any serious musician will listen to a very wide range of styles, instruments, structures and adapt or adopt elements as their own.
Anyway OP stop procrastinating with threads like this and get back to practicing your instrument.
