1m = 100cm. So if you have an expression in m and you want to convert to cm, you multiply by 100, right? But if you multiply 1m by 100, don't you get 100m, not 100cm?

you dont multiply 1m*100 you substitute m for 100cm so it becomes 1*(100cm)=100cm.

You are multiplying by 100 cm per metre, so the maths is 1 m * (100 cm / 1 m ) and the metres cancel out to leave cm as the units
