They will argue to the ends of the earth that they are right, except if they realize that their position is too stupid for anyone to take seriously, in which case they will claim that they were just trolling you all along.
They WILL claim victory regardless what you do, so the best you can do is to refuse to play their games. Just ignore them until they give up.
Alternatively if you enjoy endless pedantic bickering you can easily keep a pointless argument going for days on end. One of my high school friends was one of these assholes. We once argued for a full day as to whether excited sodium ions emit yellow or orange light. That was loads of fun.
