Is studying anything STEM at a German university worth it, especially with ADHD?
Currently contemplating whether or not to continue studying my dreadfully boring information science at a university of applied science (read state/community college for the americans and about as rigorous) I applied to mainly at the urge of my parents "because I'm such a book nerd", or switch to a regular university to study something STEM related I would be actually interested in such as material science, chemistry or computer engineering.
What worries me mainly is this:
1. Each of these subjects would take me at least five years to complete my undergraduate studies as the official six or seven semesters to complete your B.S. are infamously bogus.
2. German universities spent most their first few semesters notoriously filtering out students even remotely struggling, meaning I could very well waste a year and thousands of euros in living expenses for fuck all.
3. One of the big ways german universities are so darn cheap (besides being run down, ancient or often both) is that they are notoriously barebone, for example individual support for students is almost nonexistent, making neurodivergent studying extra fun.
Second alternative I have been thinking about is dropping out altogether, at least for now, and instead look for some decently paid apprenticeship.
For example the waterways authority in a smaller, very affordable city not too far away from where I study, is looking for prospective mechanics and canal builders, and my idea would be to complete these three years and later study based on that something like environmental engineering, funded by skilled part time work in those professions.
