That isn't really what kickstarted our intelligence though, it just layed the groundwork by making us mostly hairless and sweaty as opposed to hairy and sweatless like other apes.
Once we really started expanding out into all the environments around the savannah and had to begin adapting to all kinds of new challenges, that's what really kicked off our intellectual expansion.
