I want to understand more about the world I'm living in, but I have no idea where to start
The only thing I have going for me is that I'm not a mathlet, so I shouldn't have any problems on that side, at least in the beginning

Good place to start is classical mechanics, try picking up any book on it. Taylor is normally recommended, I've recently started working through Modern Classical Mechanics (Helliwell), it's okay, but nothing to write home about. There's also another nice book I'm working through called Covariant Physics, that's been pretty interesting. Finally, if all of those don't do anything for you then Classical Mechanics (Goldstein) is the standard graduate CM book.
