>>14119379To be fair, only part of that is the result of endurance, the rest is intelligence. We can track game hours or even days after blood or scent trails have dissipated by interpreting signs like tracks, scat, disturbed plant life, etc. That shit gave humans an unparalleled advantage.
Imagine you're a deer in southern Europe 15,000 years ago. You're minding you're own business, eatin' some delicious grass and oh shit motherfucker are those berries? Jackpot!
Then out of nowhere it feels like something comes up and bites you in the ass. You look around in a panic - nothing's chewing on you, there's just this stick poking out of your butt and these pink furry things across the clearing. Fuck this shit. You run off, full sprint, they're not gonna catch up to you. 10-15 minutes later you stop in a small patch near a pond to catch your breath. Man that was crazy. You drink some water, try to calm down, maybe try to reach that stick or lick your wounds. Hour goes by, maybe an hour and a half and suddenly you hear rustling. Your head shoots up and you see those pink motherfuckers again. Holy tittyfucking deerchrist they just show the fuck up out of nowhere! You're back on your feet and sprinting. You leave them in the dust. Another 15 minutes and you drop. Heart's racing, lungs burning. How'd they find you? Why didn't you smell them coming?
This cycle repeats. You run, you lose them, you try to rest, they find you again. For hours, and hours. Sometimes you get away clean, sometimes they put another stick in you. The sun sets, no light, you think you can finally stop. But no, red lights appear, hounding you in the dark. You run, you've never felt this tired before, it feels like your heart will burst. Your leg catches on a root and you go down. You hear a crack. Leg's broke. You try to put pressure on it and go down again. Pain stabbing you everywhere. You're so tired. The lights are coming back. You close your eyes and wait for the end.
Scary fucking shit.
