What should be a very low-stakes matter, borderline schizos believing dumb things, has seemingly taken on an air of incredible social importance.
Science enthusiasm, aka sciencism, has become a religion and those who contradict it, no matter how inconsequential their contradictions, are treated as heretics that need to be burned. Neil says that belief in science is irrelevant, but if you profess your disbelief in science he'll become very upset. Belief in science is VERY important to him, contrary to what he claims.
