Questions allow you to understand the content more, see what you don't know (rather than the false optimism everyone has learning stuff i.e., a micro Dunning–Kruger effect), and reinforce what you do know. After that you should remember if not know what to look up based on memory.
As for if you need to remember longterm or fairly abstract stuff like equations (humans remember words easier before anyone gives me shit about equations = abstract), bulletpoints of keywords and equations suffice.
