An African hunter-gatherer wants to know if she's killed enough meat to feed her family. Someone made dull by self-domestication, like a European or an Asian, might be tempted to count the kills. But the hunter-gatherer is more intelligent. She understands that numbers are actually very complex, and dealing with them rigorously requires a fair amount of work. She could do that, if she wanted. After all, she solves a complex system of differential equations in her head each time she aims her bow or spear at a rabbit or deer. But such complexity is not necessary for a simple task like this. Rather, she simply pairs her kills and her tribe-members: "This rabbit is for LaToya, this one is for Breonna, this one for Shaniqua...". And so, through both her mental and physical prowess, she secures a healthy meal for her family. Little does she know that white male mathematicians would later colonize her pairing idea and call it the bijection.h
