3 years of an engineering and I have as much practical knowledge as I did starting out.

Some schools will let you do research under an engineering or related professor in place of senior design, thats what I did
A design project doesn't seem that bad tho
At my school students got away with really stupid design projects
Some students entered a robot competition and just submitted a roomba they bought
Another group just made an Amazon Alexa command that was supposed to help senior citizens or something
Honestly if you meet with whatever professor is in charge of the class regularly and act like you're trying there's no way you won't pass
