I know that the group SU(2) actually has a representation in all dimensions, so theres 2x2,3,x3,4x4,5x5 and so on, matrix representations of the group (not faithful in general, only faithful at odd or even dimensions, dont remember now)
But does the opposite works at all? Do big groups like U(17) have low dimensional representations.
