The tweet seems to be saying that the FC site didn't exist before (similar to Nicholas Wade's widely shared article) but is unclear on the ultimate provenance of the 19nt sequence. I ask because not everything that appears in a patent has to be an original creation, obviously.

I'm skeptical that they've thoroughly investigated WHY the sequences appear in the patents. I'm also skeptical about the crude probability calculations and hope someone with more knowledge in the field (not just 'citizen journalists') can look over the calculations. The assumption seems to be that these pathogenic building blocks appear by pure dice rolls with uniform probability distribution.
