I have an exam tomorrow morning and I seriously need help figuring something out before I get there.
I'm in Calc 1 and we have this beginning of the semester pre-test in which we display some basic calculations skill he's "taught" us but he's a fucking retarded and didn't do a good job so clearly i don't know what's going on. An example on the study guide is to find the integral of 3x^2 + x.

Any ideas on how I do this? I checked the Wikipedia but I'm still a bit confused on integrals

You literally just follow the rules. By the sum rule, $\int 3x^2 + x dx$ becomes $\int 3x^2 dx + \int x dx$ . By the rule on multiplication of integrals by constants, this is the same as $3 \int x^2 dx + \int x dx$ . Then you just use the power rule to get $x^3 + \frac{x^2}{2} + c$ .

I'm afraid there is no hope. Integrals are something you learn towards the end of Calculus 1. If you are referring to them as "basic calculations" it shows that you have not taken anything you have learned before seriously whatsoever...

If you have a power like x^n it becomes x^{n+1}/(n+1). The constant multipliers stay as they are. In the end you add an arbitrary constant C

So 3x^2 + x becomes 3x^3/3 + x^2/2 + C

Imagine a function is a curve to the right of the y-axis, and imagine you cut it off at a value of x, x=k, whichever you want, then the integral $\int_0^k f(x) dx$ is the area under the curve made by the graph of the function f(x) and bound by the straight lines that are the y and x-axes and x=k. That is a definite integral, because of the left and right bounds, known as limits of integration. The question you asked came without them, therefore, it is an indefinite integral, meaning solving it just tells you the form of all the possible functions which yield its integrand when differentiated. If you can't follow that sentence, rethink trying to pass the semester. You need more than the knowledge to "just pass" to get math

I forgot the answer to your question, here it is, but do keep in mind you should be able to do this without even thinking
$\int \! 3x^2+x \, \mathrm{d}x.$
If an integral's integrand or argument, that is the part between the symbol and "dx" is a sum, you rewrite it as integrals of each element of the sum, like so:
$\int \! 3x^2 \, \mathrm{d}x + \int \! x \, \mathrm{d}x.$
Then, you can take the constant of the first integral out of the integrand, and make it a multiplier of the whole integral
$3 \!\!\int \! x^2+x \, \mathrm{d}x.$
Both the first and second integrals here are basic, and the solution to either of them should not even be reasoned, but known by heart. The rule you could apply assuming you forgot these very simple integrals is the power rule, which is in the picture attached to this reply and works for all polynomial integrands of a degree that's not negative.
Thus, the indefinite integral is equal to, as others have stated
$x^2 +\frac{x^2}{2} + C.$
Now, you are gonna fail this exam if this seems advanced to you, and you most definitely are not prepared, I just wanted to see if I could display what I want properly

You take the antiderivative so 3x^2 becomes x^3 and x becomes 0.5x^2 so for f(x) = 3x^2 + x you get F(x) = x^3 + 0.5x^2 + C. For integral aka area under curve from A to B you plug and chug and subtract F(b) - F(a)

Only retards say this. I went through five years of uni with retards saying this shit in my ears over and over and asking me for help, saying the professors were incompetent. I followed the same lessons as them and I was doing just fine.
