if you start with basic circuit texts, i'd wager you'd get overwhelmed with the modeling and not see the underlying theory that unites the ideas.
if you'd like to get into digital electronics, you can bypass all of the above to some extent and just play around with digital circuit simulators. i'd highly suggest watching MIT 6.004 lectures on youtube and checking out the companion site
