As humans, our intelligence depends more on the quality of our mental algorithms than our natural capacity. Since our limits are so high, reaching them is almost impossible. We can construct worlds in our dreams.
Our brain naturally becomes better at whatever it cares about. The more it cares - the more stimulation - the more mental energy - the more improvement. Trying to force our brain to work on something it doesn't care about is a waste of energy. Unless...
Unless the number of things you care about is so little, barely enough to keep you alive and functioning, that all your mental energy always go in one single direction. Creating the illusion of intellectual superiority over those who are forced, by the society, to do things unrelated to their path.
But all cool things are created by the few who disregard whatever their society tells them and wholeheartedly follow their passion. Those who can project an illusion of high IQ by not caring about anything, only trick the society into giving them resources despite being inherently useless.
