Many people (mainly chinese) praise him days on end but his best achievement seems to me his 'informative' ability, like an overpowered high school teacher who knows everything and writes essays all day. Is he just a 'failure to launch' math guy?

I lost all respect when I saw how little of the mathematician's rigor and discernment he had when blogging about politics. It's not that he was wrong about Trump being a moron -- even Trump's supporters betray that low opinion when they go full 4D-chess mental gymnastics to rationalize Trump's mental-midget antics. Yes, but for what reason? It wasn't to bring about changes to regular people, it was to help the corrupt, the oligarchs. Democrats are paid by companies and special interest, which is why they will do everything in their power to please their funders. It is not totalitarianism because the democrats don't go against their funders, which is why there is barely to no expansion of state even with 8 years of obama. that is my case why democrats are the same as conservative in america. one is just posturing to the public but both ultimately serve the same master.

he hasn't done that much for algebraic number theory. his number theoretic work is largely combinatorial and analytic in nature. (not to say he isn't one of the best mathematicians tho, he definitely is)
