I hire for an NLP based AI startup and all the interviews are like one of the following:
>So, what brings you to NLP.AI?
>>Oh well I heard you guys were hiring so I thought I'd apply.
>Nice, cool yeah, so we work on NLP related AI for our clients, does that sound interesting to you?
>>Not really, I really want to work in finance but I thought I could work with you guys for a few months so I could learn Python.
>Oh. So you're not interested in NLP or AI?
>>No not really.
>OK then, we'll get back to you.
>>>>>Next!
>Hello! So, what brings you to NLP.AI?
>>Hey so I was wondering what your starting salaries are?
>Well we try to pay more than our competitors at a level commensurate with your experience. How would you describe your background?
>>Oh I'm new to this but I heard you can make a lot of money. Like six figures.
>Well that depends a bit on what your educational background is perhaps.
>>I heard that a Product Manager at Google makes 500k.
>Yeah... I think you may need to work up to that position though.
>>OK well I can start at 300k and do you think in 2 or 3 years I can make 500k?
>Hmm... I think we're looking for someone a little more "junior" than you, thank you for your time.
>>>>>Next!
>Hello! So, what brings you to NLP.AI?
>>I want to work with Neural Networks!
>Interesting! Do you have experience with Neural Networks?
>>Well I went through a TensorFlow tutorial and I heard Google uses Neural Networks.
>Ok... well yes we use a lot of different ML models depending on the task, sometimes Neural Networks and sometimes other things.
>>OK I want to work on the Neural Networks.
>Ok maybe you can get acquainted with some of the models we already use in production first?
>>I heard Google is using Neural Networks.
>I'm sure Google uses a lot of things. We'll get back to you.
Doesn't anyone have the sense to at least PRETEND to be interested in the company they're applying for? And why does everyone define their goals like they're looking to jump to a megacorp?
