Why do popular culture fictional objects refer to things such as "future dimension" when they talk about time travel? There isn't more than one dimension of time so why refer to it as such?

You are literally perceiving time in at least two dimensions right now. If time were one dimensional memory and thinking about the future would be impossible. If you live in one dimensional space you can only see points, in two dimensions you can only see lines, in three dimensions you can only see two dimensions. But you can perceive time as a "line" so there are at least two dimensions of time.

The fact that different points of time influence each other is why there are at least two dimensions of time. If time were one dimensional, there would only be an identical series of infinite points, change would be impossible. You can't graph change on a line

Time is a spatial dimension. If you teleport to a dimension at a different angle, time or reaction speed will progress differently.

to mind the present is determined by its relation to the past and future, it does not have position in any way analogous to space, but in our perception of time the present is defined by where or "when" it is or "occurs" on the past and future. a two dimensional point is determined by the x and y axis. it doesn't matter if the past and future only affect the present if a mind interprets them, that only means the higher dimensions of time have potential existence and require a mind to be actualized. Imagine a computer made of two dimensional transistors and you can simulate three dimensions on it, you would not say that the third dimension is stored physically in that computers brain
