It's hard to find actual philosophers with original ideas making youtube videos about them. Carefree Wandering is one, but he's too much of a speculative continental for my taste. He made a video about Sam Harris' book, but it's not really a criticism of it, it's just an excuse to talk about his own ideas. A real hatchet job on Sam Harris' book was done by some grad student who calls himself Cuck Philosophy. Nice insult to injury.

Just another midwit-IQ, self-important podcaster. I really wish people like him would attempt to learn what they are actually talking about instead of spewing pop-sci garbage into the general domain.

He got a PhD in the least scientific discipline of the sciences (neuroscience - its not neurology) after his extended gap year thinking about Buddhism. I don't like these gap year types, working a year or 2 as a trucker, or in MacDonalds, or in a rundown Appalachian town will teach you more about life than sitting under a tree in nepal.

I'm not against spirituality - I just dont like the clean salesman who went on a gap year who's probably never been in a properly shit situation for an extended period of time. If you want to look into the depth and tragedy of the human soul, try striking up a conversation with a dumb ugly 22 year old who pumps gas in Oregon and is upset because he has no prospects of leaving town. Real insight into the human condition takes rough, on the ground experience - not talking to other people over the internet. Thats just how I see it.

For 2 reasons i) the technology is nowhere near there ii) intelligence does not trivially equal power, in many ways increased IQ/intelligence does not lead to more power over the real world, in some cases it actually diminishes (the famous 20 iq gap in management and workforce being the maximum is a classic example) - the idea humans will create a god like being stems from our own hubris, not facts on the ground.

Anyone with existential concerns over AI is more than aware of these things. There's a broad interval of uncertainty over time and impact.

I'm not a big fan of Sam Harris but he's 100% right when it comes to this, as is Bostrom.
