Before DNA, RNA was likely what stored genetic information. Back then, RNA enzymes did what proteins do now which only proves that evolution often replaces old mechanisms with new ones.
Non-genetic information is stored in proteins and glycosides.
If life exist, it is likely based on organic polymers, but not necessarily DNA.

Evolution is conservative and can't just replace the underlying base easily.
There are prions and RNA viruses though.
