Tons of nigs in Maryland though, so be careful. Especially in the College Park area, and of course if you go to Baltimore. One thing I really loved about UMD College Park, and this is a serious benefit even if it sounds kind of silly, but they have a TON of stores and food right near the university and even on campus. I mean a crazy amount. The entire town is like a strip mall. It's not the nicest looking town, but super convenient for getting around when you're a busy student. And I'm comparing UMD to other big schools in big towns/cities. I've spent time at University of Baltimore, University of Washington (Seattle), University of Vermont (Burlington), and visited several other schools, and even though they were all in densely populated areas, none of them had nearly the amount of food or shopping that you have in College Park, and almost all of it is walking distance.
Also, they have a lot of sorority slut stacies and country club types a UMD. A lot fewer of the hipsters and pink haired woke types then other schools I've been to. Also, great night life, although I'm not sure how it is now that COVID hit, and you probably wont have time anyway if you're going to be in grad school. Super chill and laid back people, even some of the cops.
Also, their mascot is literally a turtle, which is kind of cool.
