this. my $200 audioengines went up an order of magnitude in "blind guess price-tag" value with professionally tuned EQ alone. with some room tuning to drop 100hz a few db, i'll have flatter response at listening volume than the 1970s version of OP pic.

The problem with high-end audio equipment is that it's often used for music files that are irreparably damaged and will never sound good. Almost all music released or remastered since the late 90s has been mangled by audio engineers to be as loud as possible at the expense of quality

The porblem is deeper than this, so I hate the remastered versions, when old musicians nevermind being well past their best years and having heard the peak hearing abilities mess up with the masterfully mixed records. The Beatles are perfect example. Original recording of Michelle has that ice-cream sense about it completely gone in the remastered version.
