Aks yourself these questions and continue untill you can answer them and explain them to others. For example; the subject is the kidney. Aks yourself what is the kindey made out off? (germ line -> anatomy -> compartements -> vascularisation/innervation -> cell types)
What is its function? ( filtration, electrolyte/volume homeostasis, Vit D, EPO etc)
How does it do this? Nefrons -> glomerulus, loops, clearance, etc (Stop at the important intracellulair details)
Now you have a basis on what is a normal kidney and function. Knowing this you should be able to make some guesses on where it can go wrong.
This framework allowed me to easily internalise new concepts and info without getting overwhelmed. It is important to stay confident and not get distracted by the countless details. You'll find that you remember most of them even when you dont think so.
