the sages (people who dedicated their lives to Torah) rightly said that if all the ocean was ink and all the trees were pens and all the earth was paper, it would still not be able to write 1% on what is in the Torah. The issue is that it takes a special type of soul to want to follow God's commands to the fullest and realize the Torah is the truth, the rest of people just want to fornicate with each other and eat bacon, others dont want it to be truth so they invent other excuses and believe in their delusions.
So yeah, compared to 99% of the population, i do think religious pious jews are a pure people, a nation of saints, though being righteous also applies to gentiles who follow at least the noahide laws and the ethical teachings and of course Israel hasn't been righteous 100% of the time.
