Hospital ships don't have ICU beds to the same standards and are more of a quarantine tool. Besides, ICU capacity isn't the problem. Lack of nursing staff and medical supplies (due to supply chain problems) is.

Wouldn't we know by now that the majority of Omicron deaths are occurring through post-viral complications. I mean, its feasible and perhaps logical. Since the acute infection is much milder, the vast majority of deaths will occur after more time since the patients who die from it will hold out for longer than they would against Delta. This doesn't indicate that the actual ways that the virus kills you has changed, nor that it has become deadlier. More likely scenario is that these are deaths that are occurring in people who are in the ICU for a prolonged time due to some complication with the acute illness, but the actual timeline of these complications hasn't shifted, only that patients are surviving them for a little longer.

Well, nevermind. I just checked SA covid data and it seems they had about 600 deaths yesterday (one of the worst in the pandemic so far). Do we know if these are people who have recently come into the hospital in the last week or so, or are patients who seemingly cleared the acute infection from the case peak a month ago and have somehow succumbed to the virus a whole month later? What is the ICU data in SA like right now? If this somehow mutated to be extremely lethal but with a one month delay, we will be extremely fucked.

Back down to 100 something today, nonetheless very disconcerting. 550 deaths is right in line with some of the worst Delta days, and we have no idea if that is going to the peak of Omicron or not. The big mystery is why the deaths are lagging so hard.
