>>14066467I thought god was an archaic figure of speech until I was about 8 or 9 years old, because I grew up in a post soviet country. I was really into dinosaurs as a kid so I had a pretty good understanding of evolution by then, I became a hardcore atheist in my teenage years when I realized that some people unironically believe all the stupid shit in religious scripture, denying realities that seemed basic to me. Then I got older, being an atheist on the internet stopped being cool, the social/evolutionary purpose of religion became apparent and I stopped caring entirely. I still think most religious people are that way because they're stupid, but trying to debate metaphysics is pointless.
I think being exposed to modern pop science in your formative years is a basically unbreakable inoculation against religion. Not because science strictly conflicts with religion in its modern, far reduced and purely abstract form, but because the other religious people tend to be obnoxious idiots who struggle with understanding things you find obvious.
