When you say "abra kadabra", a steel ball bearing appears in front of you. It stays here for 5 minutes, then disappears. And you have quota of 5 points, 1 cast = 1 point, it's restored at 1 point per hour. No points = no effect.
In this case you can try to research origins of magic and mana, but you'll always fail, because mana points are stored outside of universe instead of being some sort of physical fuel. And there's no "magic forces" to be researched, because universe is directly changed from outside. Sure, you can research ball size, required loudness, relative distance of it appearing, whether ball would appear when recording is played, etc, etc, but no "origins" can be researched.
