frankly, if you've ever truly applied yourself to something, and I mean truly, giving it your absolute all, and you don't get at least a 92% then you aren't very smart and should choose something non-academic. If you didn't give it your all and didn't position yourself to be successful pursuing it as a career, you weren't interested in it in the first place

I think this is an excessive, somewhat arbitrary, target. There are plenty of uncontrollable variables that might cause an intelligent person to fall below 90%, even after studying diligently. 71%-75% is more accurate at the university level. 71%+ is universally treated as a distinction for this reason.

That's not entirely accurate. You can walk away with a deep understanding of the subject and have scratched by with a low B/high C. RA is an extremely rigorous course and should be graded with equal intensity, by that alone, getting an A for most who are dedicated is at best a moderate struggle.

It means that you should apply yourself more, learn to work with others, talk with profs, and find other methods that work for you. It's totally possible to do badly in a specific subject (ie real analysis) and do fine in another (ie abstract algebra). Some people have brains that are just built in different ways.
I know a guy who almost failed abstract algebra 1, and is now doing graduate studies at EPFL; your first term grades don't dictate your future or your potential.

As with all things in life, front being an artist to a geologist to a baker to a mathematician, ultimately the most important question is if you really want it or not. If you don't want/care about it enough to risk failure in its pursuit then maybe that's reason enough to not pursue any given field.
