Other technologies are often promising, like electric cars, but when you look closer they aren't as green as often promised.
Algae is pretty neat. Can do a lot of neat stuff.
But for environmental protection, it's less about technology. Sensors, yes, and field work, samples, analytical machines like GC/MS and stuff. Then you can see who pollutes, and you can fine the everlasting shit out of them, to the point where it's cheaper to install protective measures / improve the process enough to do less harm.
Finally, if we just got rid of the rich and their super yachts and space flights and shit, we could cut them carbon emissions by at least 15% - and that is not accounting for all their dirty factories.
