This means that on YouTube, infamy = fame, and dislikes = likes. The more likes a video gets, the more it pops up on the main page and shows up closer to the top of search results. The more dislikes a video gets, the more it pops up on the main page and shows up closer to the top of search results. The more negative comments a video receives that put it on blast, the more it pops up on the main page and shows up closer to the top of search results. It’s all just considered “feedback” and “interaction”. Even just viewing the video without touching any buttons promotes it and makes it more popular.
If you want to make a statement and want to refute someone’s video - ignore it, and talk about anything else that might distract others from it. Eventually it will receive less views and fall into obscurity.
If you view a video you dislike, click the dislike button, and leave a seething comment, you may as well have just favorited the video, clicked the like button, and left a positive comment.
THIS IS WHY YOUTUBE GOT RID OF THE DISLIKE BUTTON. IT DID WORSE THAN NOTHING - IT PROMOTED VIDEOS THAT PEOPLE UNANIMOUSLY DISLIKED. EVERYONE CLAMOURING FOR ITS RETURN IS A FUCKING RETARD WHO IS NOW GOING TO GO PROMOTING MORE BULLSHIT, THINKING THAT THEY’RE MAKING A DIFFERENCE AND SHUTTING BULLSHIT DOWN.
