Therefore 0.999 = 1

Where x = 0.99
10x = 9.999
9x = 8.999

But
10x - x = 9

While it is true that 0.9999 repeater is 1 the proof you used isn't valid. The reason that you have provided is actually one of the proofs that the proof used is invalid.
