Ivermectin is a Glutamate-gated Chloride Ion Channel inhibitor, which leads to an increase in chloride ion flow and cell membrane hyperpolarization. What it effectively does is stall synapses along a cell membrane, in the case of parasites, paralyzing them. It does not act directly against any Sars-CoV-2 proteins or innate host cell enzymes involved in viral replication.
